Black Girl Still Life

Allen is not using a single historical artwork as a reference, but she is inspired by the many still lifes and studies that Renaissance artists created. She paints her own using objects from her bathroom. In the painting, we see objects that an African American women find all too familiar. She piles them on top of the recognizable Amazon Prime box for a humorous and guilty reference to the orders we all make for the essentials we need.
