A part of Allen's classical remix series, this oil painting is a fresh and textural take on Vermeer's Girl with the Pearl Earring. The artist recreates a popular historical painting with African Americans in modern attire. Her subjects are confident and choose their own clothing to recreate the artworks, giving them control over how they appear in the paintings, thus showing their own personalities. Inspired by a photo from a photographer and college classmate of the artist, Alexus Milons.
